Seasons in Canada

The diversity of Canada spans each of the four spectacular seasons. From the playfulness of Spring to the endless options of Summer. Follow by the kaleidoscope of Fall and new adventures of Winter - Canada provides year-round opportunities to stimulate your senses!

Spring

Farewell to winter ... spring brings colour back to the land, and with it comes the opportunity to enjoy exciting activities that highlight the beauty of this special time of year.

Picture cities basking in a kaleidoscope of flowers or rugged terrain emerging from winter's snowy grasp. Whatever your desire, Canada's springtime offers a tapestry of opportunities from vast mountain vistas to towering fjords, tranquil country-sides, vibrant cities with a flavour for metropolitan nightlife or multicultural festivals and seemingly endless coastal wonders.

Summer

Imagine the excitement as you round a river bend and negotiate your way through a stretch of churning white water.

Imagine the stillness of a northern lake, your canoe gliding across water tinged with the golden glow of dusk. Imagine the satisfaction of finding that perfect camping spot as you relax by a fire and feel like you have the wilderness all to yourself.

Imagine the spectacular mountains, abundant wildlife, sizzling nightlife within vibrant cities, wineries stretching across hillsides, the most perfect location for your next round of golf, festivals that take you back to the carefree days of childhood.

Imagine becoming captivated with the legends of the Nahanni or experiencing a land that actually reaches in and touches your soul as Canada's North does.

Now imagine yourself amidst it all as a Canadian summer comes alive.

Fall

When summer winds down, the countryside of Ontario and Quebec burst into an astonishing blaze of golds, oranges and reds. It's the perfect time of year to get behind the wheel or step aboard a train and explore the rural areas of Eastern Canada. Go as you please and spend the cool, crisp evenings warmed by the fire in a quaint country inn, bed and breakfast or pampering resort.

Or maybe you'd rather be outdoors - with the arrival of autumn, some of the most exciting hiking in the Rockies can be found as the aspen turn valleys golden and the sub-alpine larch do the same to the high country. This is also the best time of year to view huge flocks of migrating snow geese, Canada geese, ducks and raptors. The clouds of birds exploding into the sky is a sight and sound you're sure to remember.

Venturing out to British Columbia, see the golden hues of the forests across rugged mountain ranges or visit the festival-filled Okanagan valley with its award-winning wineries and orchards. It's a peaceful and amazingly scenic time in the Islands whether you are exploring the Queen Charlottes, Inside Passage, Gulf Islands or Vancouver Island. And from coast to coast to coast, cosmopolitan cities offer a host of events, activities and nightlife to keep you entertained.

Winter

Sparkling white snow and warm crackling fires, Canada in the winter is a land of fairytales and dreams.

Within the cities, downtown trees sparkle with coatings of ice and careless laughter ripples as people take advantage of outdoor skating rinks. But the magic of winter really takes place in the mountains and rolling countryside. Here you can glide through silent forests or cross-country skis, strap on snowshoes for a trail-breaking hike across snow-covered fields or try dogsledding and snowmobiling.

And of course, Canada's alpine skiing offers an opportunity to experience some of the world's most majestic slopes. When you're done, it's time for apres ski! Relax in a chalet or lodge, sit in front of a warm fireplace and dine on mouthwatering fare or head back into the city for an evening of culinary delights and lively entertainment.
