Kick off this tour on the West Coast of Canada by exploring the beautiful seaside city of Vancouver. Enjoy a stunning cruise through the Gulf Islands on your way to Vancouver Island. Stop at the beautiful Butchart Gardens on your way to Victoria, where you'll have an entire day free to explore this city on your own.

Enjoy a full-day trip north along Vancouver Island as you travel to Port Hardy. From here you'll cruise along the Inside Passage with amazing views and active wildlife before arriving at Port Rupert. Next, board the train to travel up the stunning Skeena River valley, passing jagged mountain peaks and deep canyons.

Then it's time to head into the Canadian Rockies! A beautiful train ride takes you past the Rockies' highest peak, Mount Robson, before arriving in the alpine town of Jasper. You'll visit the Columbia Icefield and have the chance of a lifetime to enjoy a unique walk on ancient glaciers.

Finally, explore Banff with a sightseeing tour that includes a gondola ride for a spectacular bird's-eye view of the magnificent scenery. A boat ride on Banff National Park's Lake Minnewanka caps off this relaxing day. Wrap up your tour as you leave the Rockies behind and travel toward the cosmopolitan city of Calgary.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival in Vancouver
Upon arrival in Vancouver, transfer on your own to your overnight accommodation. The remainder of the evening is yours to relax or explore this beautiful oceanside city. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 2 - Vancouver to Victoria
Your day begins with a spectacular cruise through the Gulf Islands marine wonderland to Vancouver Island. Then explore world-renowned Butchart Gardens as you travel to Victoria. The evening you can independently explore this compact, pedestrian – friendly city that features eclectic shopping and superb cuisine. Overnight in Victoria.

Day 3 - Victoria
Today is yours to explore Victoria and its many wonderful attractions. You may wish to visit the Royal British Columbia Museum or enjoy Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont Empress– a traditional English experience. Perhaps you choose to hop aboard a vintage double-decker bus to visit some of Victoria’s most popular attractions. Tonight, enjoy dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants. Day 4 - Victoria to Port Hardy
Depart from Victoria and head north on Vancouver Island to Port Hardy. This full-day journey will highlight historical points along the way. Overnight in Port Hardy.

Day 5 - Port Hardy to Prince Rupert
This morning, embark on a full day of cruising the sheltered waters of the Inside Passage. During the length of this 16-hour journey, a wonderful array of snow-capped mountains combined with rich forests provide a background for a series of dramatic fjords. Killer whales, sea lions and playful porpoise often appear in these waters, so keep your camera close at hand. Arrive at the seaport of Prince Rupert and transfer on your own to your hotel. Overnight in Prince Rupert.

Day 6 - Prince Rupert to Prince George
Early this morning, transfer to the Prince Rupert train station and board VIA Rail's Skeena to Prince George. The railroad travels up the stunning Skeena River valley, passing jagged mountain peaks, canyons, native totem poles and bald eagles. Overnight in Prince George.

Day 7 - Prince George to Jasper
This morning, return to the Prince George train station and re-board VIA Rail's Skeena for the continuing journey to Jasper. The route today follows the famous Fraser River. Keep your eyes open for grizzly bear, moose, beaver, and osprey! A scenic highlight on today's journey is Mount Robson, the Rockies' highest peak. Arrive by late afternoon in the peaceful alpine town of Jasper. Overnight in Jasper.

Day 8 - Jasper to Banff
Your tour today will encompass the ultimate glacier exploration with a visit to the Columbia Icefield for the Glacier Adventure and Glacier Skywalk. From walking on ancient ice, to standing on a glass-floored observation platform over a glacier-formed valley, today's experience will be sure to leave you in awe. Arrive in Banff by late afternoon and enjoy the remainder of the day exploring Banff on your own. Overnight in Banff.

Day 9 - Banff
Today, visit Bow Falls, Surprise Corner and the Banff Gondola on a morning sightseeing excursion. This afternoon, take in some more sights and sounds on an evening lake cruise on Banff National Park's largest lake – Lake Minnewanka. Overnight in Banff.

Day 10 - Banff to Calgary
A scenic transfer from Banff to Calgary ends your West Cost & Rockies Wilderness Rail Adventure.
