Ice break-up in Spring brings droves of beluga whales to the Churchill River. The beluga whales enjoy the summer months of July and August in the Churchill River where the river water is warmer than the ocean water and the whales are able to feed on crustaceans. ITINERARY:
Day One ~ Arrival in Winnipeg
Today you will fly (from Vancouver or Toronto) to Winnipeg, Manitoba. This afternoon you will take a tour of the city where you will see sights such as the Legislative Building, St. Boniface Museum and the Manitoba Museum.
Day Two to Day Three ~ Aboard VIA Rail's 'Hudson Bay' Service
On day 2 and 3 you will travel aboard VIA Rail's "Hudson Bay" train travelling northbound towards Churchill. This journey stretches over 2 nights, and you will be provided with comfortable sleeping accommodation aboard the train.
Day Four ~ Arrival into Churchill
You will arrive into Churchill early in the morning. You will be met by a guide for a town & area tour, a visit to the Eskimo Museum and a transfer to your Churchill hotel your first overnight stay.
Day Five ~ Whale Watching in Churchill
This morning, take a Beluga Whale three hour tour, including a tour of the Prince of Wales Fort. Afterwards, have a free afternoon to explore Churchill on your own. At the end of the day return to your hotel for your second overnight stay.
Day Six ~ Exploring Churchill
This is your last day spent in Churchill, Manitoba. Start your day with a morning whale watching tour aboard the Zodiac. This tour is 2 hours long and has some excellent opportunities to spot the wildlife of Northern Canada. This afternoon take a Tundra Buggy to view the spectacular polar bears in their own habitat. Afterwards, the remainder of the day is at your leisure to do some final exploring.
Day Seven ~ Departing Churchill
Depart Churchill this morning by plane, and arrive into Winnipeg at mid-day. This ends your Belugas, Birds and Blooms tour, and your flight back to Toronto or Vancouver awaits.

Polar Bears of Churchill (VIA Rail & air)Each fall one of the world's most fascinating wildlife events occurs in Churchill, Manitoba. Scores of magnificent polar bears congregate along the shores of Hudson Bay waiting for the winter freeze so they can begin the annual seal hunt. From Churchill, you will view and photograph Polar Bears from the specially designed Tundra Buggy from which you will explore the tundra for two days. (Tundra Buggies are heated and equipped with washroom facilities.) Other highlights of this trip include a guided tour of the points of interest surrounding Churchill, a visit to the Eskimo Museum, and presentation at the Parks Canada facility that highlights the history and culture of the area. Programs include a dog sledding demonstration and slide presentation.
