Tour Description

Experience the best of the Canadian wilderness in winter and discover spectacular scenery as well as vibrant Canadian cities. Winter is an ideal time to travel as the rates are lower, the trains are less crowded and the staff has more time to share their "tales of the rails" with you. You'll meet traveling companions from around the world; Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, who will delight you with stories of their own cultural heritage. Be a part of this exciting adventure onboard VIA Rail's Canadian train as you hear the "call of the wild."

This tour takes you through five of Canada's provinces, as you travel west from the country's largest city, Toronto. You have two days to explore Toronto, taking advantage of your included CityPass, which provides access the city's most popular attractions.

Then the heart of your journey begins as you settle in to your train for a four-night trek through the amazing scenery of Canada in winter. Enjoy views of the snow-capped Canadian Rockies, as you twist and turn along parts of the landscape you can only reach via rail. The domed skyline car gives you great views of the passing scenery as you enjoy the landscape and search for wildlife.

As you bid goodbye to the Rockies, you'll approach the oceanside city of Vancouver. You have a full day to explore this town, including a Hop On/Hop Off bus tour that will take you to the area's best sights.

Itinerary

Day 1- Welcome to Toronto, the Capital City of Ontario
Your journey begins in Toronto, Canada's largest city and cultural center of the country. When you arrive at the airport, you'll enjoy complimentary transportation to your hotel. The luxurious Fairmont Royal York, built in 1929, remains one of Toronto's most popular and historic hotels. Ideally situated in the heart of downtown, you're just minutes from the city's famous sights and attractions. Be sure to explore the hotel's many wonderful amenities -- the gracious lobby, relaxing pool and spa -- before you head out. Overnight in Toronto.

Day 2 - Toronto Sightseeing/VIA Rail Toronto to Vancouver
Take advantage of your opportunity to explore this cosmopolitan city with your Toronto CityPass, offering admission to the city's most popular attractions including CN Tower, the Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Loma, the Ontario Science Centre and the Toronto Zoo.

VIA Rail's Canadian train departs at 10:00 pm from the station right across from your hotel. Onboard, you'll enjoy deluxe accommodations with a sitting room by day that converts to upper and lower berths at night as well as all meals in the dining car and access to the lounges and domed skyline car, which provides unparalleled viewing and photography opportunities. Hot tea and coffee are available in the lounge area throughout the journey. Overnight on train.

Days 3, 4 & 5 - Crossing the Canadian Wilderness
As the train begins to head west, you'll travel through five of Canada's Provinces, including Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. You'll pass by snow-covered forests, lakes, and streams, painting a shimmering picture of Mother Nature at her best. Be sure to spend time in the domed viewing car to catch sight of a bear, an elk or moose in the snow. Enjoy a few hours in Winnipeg, once the capital of Canada's fur trading industry. As the train heads into Jasper, you'll begin to see jagged mountains and unusual geological formations that become the magnificent Canadian Rockies. Then, you'll cross into British Columbia and notice that the terrain gives way to plains and fields as the Pacific Ocean comes into view. Overnights on train.

Day 6 - Arrive Vancouver
You'll arrive in the morning, rested and waiting to explore this fabulous city. Transfer by taxi (included) to your centrally-located hotel. While your hotel room may not be available, drop your bags off with the concierge and begin your special day. With your "Hop On/Hop Off" trolley tour you will see the city's most famous spots include: Gastown, with its cobbled streets and great shopping, Stanley Park, the Aquarium, Granville Island and Science World. Day 7 - Depart for home or extend your stay
Transfer on your own to the airport. Return home filled with memories of this Canadian winter wonderland that will remain with you forever. Or, extend your stay for a few more days in Vancouver, Victoria or Whistler.

Hotels include Fairmont Royal York and Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. VIA Rail accommodations are in Sleeper Plus class in a private cabin. Meals are included aboard the train along with exclusive access to lounges and observation cars.

Prestige Accommodations
Hotels include Fairmont Royal York and Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Via Rail accommodations are in Prestige Class. Each Prestige Cabin has a modular leather L-shaped couch by day and a Murphy bed for two by night facing the window with electric radiant heated cabin floors and walls that maintain a comfortable and constant temperature.
