On this self-drive tour, you will delve into the culinary scene mouth-first and get an insider’s look at several of the most popular destinations in and around the Canadian Rockies. This journey begins in Calgary, where you will have two days to explore the sights and tastes of the city before moving into the heart of the Rockies to Banff and Jasper. Your time in the mountains will be filled with adventure - landmark sites, wonderful sporting options and, of course, fantastic food around each peak. Moving out of the Rockies, the last days of the tour are spent exploring the offerings of Edmonton. Some of the most powerful memories a person can have are of food, and yours lie just down the road on this culinary adventure. Bon appetit!

Day 1 - Arrive Calgary
Arrive at Calgary International Airport and make your way to the rental car desk to pick up your vehicle for the next 9 days. Take in the scenery and unique vibe of Calgary as you drive from the airport to your downtown hotel. Following check-in, you are free to begin sightseeing or tasting your way through the city. Overnight in Calgary.
Day 2 - Calgary's Culinary Scene
Experience the unique atmosphere that comes with Calgary’s oldest neighborhood as you stroll through Inglewood today. Your Inglewood Edibles excursion combines the love of food with some of the neighborhood’s most interesting sites, allowing you to truly get a feel for this historic area. Highlights include a visit to an art gallery and knife and spice demonstrations at specialty shops. The tour provides a fantastic two-course lunch at one of Canada’s highest-ranking restaurants, as well as tastings at four other locales throughout the neighborhood. History and culture will come to life through the stories your guide tells and the food and drinks you sample. Following the tour, your day is at leisure. Perhaps you will stay in Inglewood to explore the charming boutique shops and a wonderful array of restaurants, or maybe you will venture to a new part of Calgary to see the sites. Day 3 - Calgary to Banff
From the hustle of the city to the quietude of the mountains, today’s adventures take you to the resort town of Banff within the Canadian Rockies. The drive is just over an hour in length; however, you can extend your drive by stopping at any number of destinations along the way. There are hamlets and villages to explore, as well as breathtaking provincial parks. Near the halfway point is the scenic town of Canmore; here, you may embark on an optional culinary excursion called the Canmore Tasting Trail. Beginning right before lunch, this 3-hour tour provides a glimpse at the community’s thriving art scene and a taste of the exceptional local wine and food. Everything from Brazilian barbecue to street tacos and handmade chocolates are featured on this tour. Upon arrival in Banff, you have the option to spend the day in nature at Banff National Park, or to see the sights and explore the diverse dining options throughout the town. Overnight in Banff.
Day 4 - Banff
Watch the scenery of Banff unfold as you sightsee from the sky and the water. Your day begins with a ride aboard the famous Banff Gondola. The glass-enclosed carriage will travel up Sulphur Mountain, and as it climbs, you will be treated to breathtaking views over Banff, Bow Valley and up to six mountain ranges on a clear day. Perhaps bring along some of the goodies you gathered in Canmore yesterday and enjoy a picnic set against the beautiful scenery. Following the gondola ride, make your way to the shores of Lake Minnewanka for a scenic cruise across the lake. Look at the looming peaks above while traveling through emerald-green water. You may even see wildlife along the shoreline; keep your camera ready! You will have the rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the amenities of Banff. Banff Upper Hot Springs are a favorite of locals and visitors alike, as is Cave and Basin National Historic Site. Of course, you could also just meander through town to peruse the shops and eateries. Day 5 - Icefields Parkway to Jasper
Amazing sights lie ahead as you make your way from Banff to Jasper via Icefields Parkway today. One of the most scenic highways in Canada, this byway offers a look at vast valleys, pristine mountain lakes, wildlife and the immaculate beauty of the Canadian Rockies. As you approach the heart of Icefields Parkway, pause your travels for a once-in-a-lifetime experience on a Glacier Adventure tour. You will board a massive Ice Explorer vehicle to drive out onto Athabasca Glacier, an ancient ice form in the Canadian Rockies. You can touch the ice and drink the pure glacial water. After, you will walk along the Glacier Skywalk - a glass-floored walkway hanging over a cliff’s edge. The views from the walkway are spectacular. Back in your car, continue onto Jasper to check in to your hotel for the evening and begin your adventures in this Rocky Mountain destination. Overnight in Jasper.
Day 6 - Jasper Food Tour
Spend the morning soaking up the natural beauty of Jasper. As you venture out of town and into Jasper National Park, there are hiking trails to explore, dramatic lookout points, beautiful lakes and incredible natural formations. Gaze upon the picture-perfect views at Maligne Lake, or drive to Athabasca Falls to see the water cascading down the rocks. This afternoon you will get better acquainted with Jasper through your Downtown Foodie Tour of Jasper. Over the course of 3 hours, you will taste four different local dishes, each perfectly paired with a beverage. You will learn about Jasper’s fascinating history through entertaining stories and the locations you visit. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy Jasper at your own pace. Overnight in Jasper.
Day 7 - Jasper to Edmonton
This morning you will move out of the mountains and into the city along the Yellowhead Highway. The drive from Jasper to Edmonton takes approximately 4 hours and includes scenes of dense forests, rolling foothills, winding rivers, small towns and expansive farmlands. Sometimes animals such as bears, deer, wild horses and elk can be seen roaming about along the sides of the highway. As you arrive in Edmonton, the remainder of the day is at leisure after you check in at your hotel. There are art galleries, museums and wonderful shops to explore. The dining scene in Edmonton is fabulous, with a diverse range of top-rated eateries. Whether you have a taste for something simple or elegant, there is a restaurant for you. Overnight in Edmonton.
Day 8 - Edmonton Food Tour
Experience the dining scene as a local today with your Downtown Delights* food tour through Edmonton. This walking tour takes you to five fantastic restaurants along Jasper Avenue and in the ICE District and offers a taste of local favorites paired with fantastic drinks. Both sweet and savory dishes will be highlighted on this journey, much to your delight. As you dine, you will learn more about the history of the city and hear fascinating stories that offer little-known facts. Spend the remainder of the day enjoying the sights of the city as you explore independently. West Edmonton Mall is a favorite stop of travelers, as is Edmonton Valley Zoo. There are glorious parks in and around the city, as well. Overnight in Edmonton.
Day 9 - Edmonton Departure
Return your rental car as you arrive at the airport this morning for your return flight home.
