Travel by train to Québec City, where a walking tour of Old Quebec will help introduce you to this charming city. A day trip to Baie Ste Catherine for whale watching is sure to be a highlight! Next, board VIA Rail’s Ocean for your overnight train journey along the St. Lawrence River to Halifax. There will be free time in Halifax and an included tour to either Peggy’s Cove or Lunenburg to showcase the area’s picturesque villages and rugged coastline.

Day 1 - Arrive Montréal
Welcome to the second largest French-speaking city in the world. With a dazzling array of international festivals, Montréal is without a doubt the liveliest city in Canada. Upon arrival, transfer independently to your hotel. After check-in, the remainder of the day will be at leisure. Overnight in Montréal.

Day 2 - Explore Montréal
As you travel aboard one of the London Style Double Deckers, you will discover the streets of Montréal as you hop on and hop off at any of the 10 sightseeing stops on this tour (included). Enjoy the rest of the day to explore Montréal at your leisure. Overnight in Montréal.

Day 3 - Montréal Boat Cruise
Today board the Cavalier Maxim and discover Montreal like you’ve never seen it before! Relive a page of history with a famous explorer, Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve, who will fascinate you with his anecdotes and historical facts. Take advantage of the sunny terraces and relax while admiring the city and its surroundings. Overnight in Montréal.

Day 4 - Montréal to Québec City
This morning travel on VIA Rail to historic Québec City (meal included), North America's only walled city. Experience the charm of 'Old France' with winding cobblestone streets, quaint boutiques and world-class restaurants. Overnight in Québec City. (L)

Day 5 - Québec City Walking Tour
Embark on a historical walking tour of Old Québec and learn about its colorful past beginning in 1608 and continuing into the present day. You will have the advantage of being in a small group lead by guides who are always open to questions, favoring a more relaxed and personal sightseeing excursion. You will leave the tour with an understanding of the lives of the people that have inhabited the city throughout the centuries. Overnight in Québec City. (D)

Day 6 - Québec City Whale-watching Excursion
Watch the whales today! Escape the urban life and treat yourself to a comfortable getaway aboard a deluxe motor coach that will take you from Québec to Baie Ste Catherine. Experience the thrill of whale watching aboard the Grand Fleuve, the best observation boat in Canada. Overnight in Québec City.

Day 7 - Québec City to Halifax
Enjoy a free day in Québec City. You may wish to visit Observatoire de la Capitale, Québec City's highest lookout point. Or perhaps you will enjoy a tour of the Maple Museum, which includes an on-site tasting and a treat. This evening, transfer (included) to the Sainte Foy train station and board VIA Rail for your overnight trip to Halifax. Overnight onboard VIA Rail.

Day 8 - Halifax
Arrive into Halifax this morning (breakfast included) and transfer on your own to your hotel. After check-in, feel free to explore the city. Visit the local shops along the harbour or visit the Halifax Citadel. Overnight in Halifax. (B, L)

Day 9 - Peggy's Cove or Historic Lunenburg Excursion*.
Peggy's Cove has been an artist and explorers paradise for well over 150 years. This picture postcard village is situated on the rugged Atlantic shoreline; home to the only lighthouse in North America with a post office, and the most photographed lighthouse in the world.

Lunenburg & Mahone Bay. Explore the South Shore filled with its history of fishing, boat building, the pirates of "Oak Island" and rum running along this craggy coastline. Lunenburg is home to Nova Scotia's largest fishing fleet, Lunenburg Academy, extraordinary architecture, supreme shops and more. From Lunenburg, continue with a drive through Mahone Bay, famous for its churches along the shore and its picturesque beauty. Overnight in Halifax.

Day 10 - Halifax Departure
Your vacation concludes upon check-out of your hotel.

As the longest continuously operating named train in North America, VIA Rail’s Ocean offers a one-of-a-kind experience through Canada. This rail line takes travelers on a journey of nearly 1,350 kilometers from Montreal, Quebec all of the way out to Halifax on the coast line in Nova Scotia. In all, travelers are aboard the Ocean for approximately 23 hours for this cross-country route.
